If you've been through something painful or traumatic, the idea of talking about it in therapy might feel overwhelming—or even impossible. The Flash Technique (FT) was created with that in mind. It’s a gentle, effective way to help your brain begin healing without having to relive the hurt.

Developed by EMDR therapist Phil Manfield, FT was designed for people who found it too distressing to revisit traumatic memories directly. Instead of focusing on the pain, FT works more like softly highlighting a memory, like only clicking once on a Word document, but not opening the files, just enough for your brain to know it’s there—while you focus on something positive and engaging. This allows your mind to process the trauma quietly in the background, without requiring you to confront it head-on.

Many people feel resolution after just one session. It’s especially helpful if you’re dealing with PTSD and want a gentler way to work through difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the pain again to start feeling better.

If you’re curious or nervous about therapy, know that this approach meets you where you are—with compassion, care, and respect for your pace.
